ESR to host party political fringe events

The fringe events will be attended by representatives from; LABC, the Chief Fire Officers Association, NAPIT and IET as well as MPs, including the Shadow Communities and Local Government Minister Roberta Blackman-Woods. The meetings will highlight the key issues affecting electrical safety in the home, including; changes to Part P of the Building Regulations, the importance of individual electrical competence, and the possibility of improving Building Control enforcement and raising consumer awareness of their responsibilities.

These party political conferences are intended to increase the political profile of electrical safety, in cooperation with key industry stakeholders. It is hoped that these events will ensure more politicians recognise the significance of effective regulation for consumers and tradespeople alike.

Commenting on the organisation of the events at this year’s party political conferences, Chris Bielby, chairman of the ESR said, ‘We are looking forward to bringing together MPs and influential stakeholders at this year’s party political conferences to raise awareness of important issues which affect electrical safety in the home. Effective regulation is of central importance to the electrical industry. These fringe events are an ideal opportunity for us to ensure members of parliament hear an industry perspective on the fine balance of risk and responsibility involved in regulatory change.’
