Rated people has commented in response to the news that the government will be introducing grants of up to £7,000 to help households replace gas boilers.
- Rated People has reported a 28% rise in demand for heat pump installations.
- An air source heat pump – the most common style of heat pump – could save the average detached home with four bedrooms up to £1,300 per year, depending on the heating system you are replacing.
- Before the £7,000 grants come into play, homeowners can still claim £970 per year through the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive.
- Rated People’s Home Improvement Trends Report found that 57 per cent of homeowners want to be more eco-friendly.

The average cost of an air source heat pump is around £10,000 and price remains a big barrier for homeowners looking to lower their carbon footprint. This grant of up to £7,000 will go a long way to helping many move to a cleaner energy solution. It’s set to help 60,000 households, and while there are a lot more than 60,000 gas boilers to replace across the UK, it’s a good start to further tackling carbon emissions.
