WAGO, a German manufacturer of electrical interconnection and automation technology, is celebrating its 75th anniversary, marking more than seven decades of supplying electrical interconnection, automation, and interface technology.
Founded in 1951 in Minden, Germany, the family-owned company now employs around 9,000 people, operates in more than 33 countries, and reported revenue of €1.34 billion (£1.14 billion) last year.
In the UK and Ireland, WAGO says its business has more than tripled over the past seven years, supported by investment in a new £25 million headquarters in Rugby.
The company’s portfolio has expanded from spring-pressure connection technology to include programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote I/O systems, industrial control equipment, HMI products, and industrial IoT connectivity.
Darren Hodson, Managing Director of WAGO UK & Ireland, comments, “WAGO’s success has always been built on connections and empowering our customers.
“As part of the industry milestone, we celebrate the people, products, and partnerships that have shaped the business since 1951.
“For the past 75 years we’ve continued to evolve with our customers, propelling us forward into this new digital landscape.”
Investment supports automation growth
The Rugby headquarters brings together sales, engineering, customer service, production, and training facilities, supporting the company’s continued expansion across the UK and Ireland.
WAGO says its automation strategy focuses on technologies that integrate with existing systems, enabling organisations to modernise operations in stages rather than through wholesale replacement.
The company serves sectors including manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, automotive, machine building, data centres, energy, and commercial buildings.
John Mackey, Head of Automation and Sales at WAGO UK & Ireland, notes, “For manufacturers, the pace of technological change is accelerating. Businesses need to become more productive, more energy efficient, more connected, and more resilient.
“WAGO brings together strong German engineering with an open automation philosophy which puts us in an excellent position to help businesses modernise without creating unnecessary complexity.”
