Five electrical apprentices from across the UK & Ireland are celebrating after being named as top ten finalists in this year’s Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.
Each of the finalists fought off reported strong competition from more than 3,000 applicants from across the UK and Ireland, securing a place in the national final and the chance to take home a career-boosting prize bundle of tools, training, and technology worth £10,000.
The two-day final will take place at Google HQ in London on 29–30 April. Where the top ten will take part in workshops, networking sessions, and a face-to-face interview with an expert judging panel.
The panel includes representatives from Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting, Federation of Master Builders, and Martin Daly (Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2025).
The five electrical apprentices who made this year’s final are:
• Ruby-Renee Voss (19), who is studying a Level 3 Electrical course at Leicester College
• Gracie Donaghy (22), who is studying Level 3 Electrical Installation at Weston College
• Kellie Cullen (19), who is an apprentice electrician from Co Kildare
• Ashton Bull (19), who is studying an electrical apprenticeship at JTL Ashford
• Nathan Sheridan (19), who is studying a Level 3 Electrical course at Gateshead Construction
Standing out from the crowd
Speaking about reaching the final, Ashton Bull says, “Having been in the electrical trade for two-and-a-half years now, I enjoy so much of my work, but the best part is taking pride in how a job looks at the end – when I can take a step back and say that was worth it, and know it will last a lifetime.
“I did well at my GCSEs and, while many of my friends went to university, I chose an apprenticeship, and it is the best decision I have made. I hope to set up my own business when I qualify next year.”
Reflecting on the competition so far, Gracie Donaghy adds, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have made it to the final of this year’s Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition! When I first applied, I never dreamed I’d get this far. It’s an incredible feeling.
“This journey has been all about pushing myself, growing as an electrician, and striving to be the best I can be. To have my hard work and passion recognised on a national stage is truly amazing, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!”
