BCIA fundraises for Teenage Cancer Trust

The Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) has nominated the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) charity. It is asking its members to plan corporate activities throughout the year as part of an ongoing fundraiser.

Taking inspiration from the TCT’s 15,000 step challenge, which is the amount of steps per day the average TCT nurse works in their role of supporting young people and their families affected by cancer, the BCIA would like its members to collectively complete five million steps and help raise £25,000 for the charity.

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words, “you have cancer”. They will each need specialised nursing care and support to get them through it. Teenage Cancer Trust is a UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need.

The awards event in May formed the centre piece of the BCIA’s fundraising with a spectacular £5,602 raised on the evening, including £500 from the company in lieu of development costs for its market information service.

With almost 160 members employing tens of thousands of people, to reach five million steps, the BCIA needs 333 people to undertake a 15,000 step challenge to meet the five million step target. Members are being asked to fundraise either through a walk with colleagues, family and friends, or through other ways such as a bake sale or BBQ.

BCIA President, Graeme Rees, says, “The BCIA is extremely proud to be supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust, which helps young people and their families dealing with cancer and it’s a charity that is particularly close to my heart. Several companies have already come up with some creative ways to donate and I would like to encourage as many of our members as possible to get involved and help us reach our target.”
