BESCA’s Competent Person Scheme to include self-certification for electrical works

The aim of the Competent Person Scheme is to provide a one-stop-shop for self-certification, giving members of the scheme the flexibility to notify Local Building Control of installed works that are compliant with Building Regulations.

With this extension to scope, the scheme is one step closer to offering a full service solution for members. The addition of Gas in 2015 will complete this, enabling members to notify for all their Building Services work solely through the Competent Person Scheme.

In addition to the extension of scope, BESCA is also offering all of its Part P registered electricians automatic registration to the new Single Mark Electrical Register. Promoted by all electrical Competent Person Scheme operators, the government and Electrical Safety First, the new register will provide the go-to-resource for any consumer looking to employ a registered electrician to carry out work in their home.

A further enhancement to the scheme has been the addition of supplementary work type descriptors. The broader range now available offers members relevant, easily identifiable descriptors to make the process of notification even simpler and more closely align with the work they are carrying out.

Russell Mott, technical manager at BESCA, said ‘Our aim is to deliver a one-stop-shop, making the process of self-certification as straightforward as possible. We are committed to delivering a convenient and effective scheme which provides members with value for money, as demonstrated by the extension of scope to include electrical works, and the addition of new work-type descriptors to make the process of notification even more straight forward.’
