NAPIT to speak at party political fringe events

The fringe events will be hosted by the Electrical Safety Roundtable and will see representatives from LABC, the Chief Fire Officers Association and IET in attendance as well as MPs, including the Shadow Communities and Local Government Minister. The meetings will highlight the key issues affecting electrical safety in the home, including; changes to Part P of the Building Regulations, the importance of individual electrical competence, and the possibility of improving Building Control enforcement.

NAPIT’s attendance at these party political conferences is intended to increase the political profile of electrical safety in the home and promote the importance of using competent, registered electricians – ensuring politicians recognise the significance of effective regulation for consumers and tradespeople alike.

Commenting on NAPIT’s attendance at this year’s party political conferences, chief operating officer, Martin Bruno, said, ‘We are looking forward to meeting with MPs and influential stakeholders at this year’s party political conferences. Effective regulation is of central importance to the electrical industry and to electrical safety in the home. These ESR fringe events are an ideal opportunity for us to ensure members of parliament hear an industry perspective on the fine balance of risk and responsibility involved in regulatory change.’

The Labour annual conference will be held from 25th-27th September and the Conservative conference, from 29th September to 2nd October. For further information visit: www.labour.org.uk/annual_conference_2013 or www.conservativepartyconference.org.uk/.
