As part of the £430m construction and support services contract, NG Bailey will work alongside Carillion, as its building services partner, to help create the new state-of the-art hospital, delivering in the region of 670 beds and 15 operating theatre suites. It has been designed to meet the best international and national standards. As part of the contract, NG Bailey will manage the design and installation of the full MEP installation worth £80m, which will contain a fully digital integrated IT platform.
The new hospital will also have a number of innovative design features including a fully enclosed Winter Garden, car parking within the hospital building on the ground and first floors to create a secure environment for both patients and staff and full separation of clinical activities and journeys from the public and non-clinical services.
Completion is scheduled for mid-2018, with the hospital opening in late 2018. The achievement of the project timeframe will be made possible by the extensive use of NG Bailey’s specialist offsite manufacturing division.
David Hurcomb, NG Bailey’s chief executive, commented ‘We are delighted to have been selected as a preferred bidder partner, working alongside Carillion, to deliver this scheme.
‘We also look forward to working with the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver the state-of-the-art facility, which will enable the Trust to achieve its objectives for delivering significant improvements in healthcare services for the people of Sandwell and West Birmingham.
‘NG Bailey has a rich heritage in the delivery of healthcare projects, including the award winning St Helens and Whiston PFI scheme, which we helped to deliver six months early and on budget due to the level of innovative offsite manufacturing techniques used.’
