NICEIC and ELECSA deliver a thoroughbred show at Aintree

The event saw more than 400 contractors cram into Aintree Racecourse, the home of the Grand National, for all the latest news, advice, and technical updates related to the electrical contracting industry.

Clarke, who presents TV’s The Restoration Man and George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, got things under starters’ orders with his seminar on building design.

He spoke about the need to be more creative when it comes to building new homes and the demand to incorporate new technology which works in accordance with how people use their home.

‘I believe that homes in the future will almost be entirely controlled by wireless technology. More and more of the equipment we use, whether its heating or lighting, can now be managed over wireless networks and as electrical installers you will be in a great position to benefit from that and advise people about how they can make the most from their home.’

He also spoke about the importance that apprenticeships play in shaping the future of the construction industry. He started off his career with an apprenticeship at a local architect and said more must be done to encourage young people into the industry.

‘I have enjoyed a great career in the building sector but we are facing a huge skills gap in the future.

‘I want others to see the benefits that learning a trade at an early age can provide.’

NICEIC and ELECSA’s Tony Cable and Darren Staniforth provided the latest technical advice including the implications of the third amendment.

Billy Byrne, the resident electrician on TV’s DIY SOS was also in attendance and shared his experiences with contractors in a packed exhibition hall. Attendees were able to chat with representatives from some of the industry’s biggest suppliers including headline sponsors Bosch Power Tools, Elite Security Products, Scolmore and WF Senate.

Mark Smith, marketing director at NICEIC and ELECSA said: ‘This was the second time at Aintree and it was great to see so many returning faces alongside those visiting one of our events for the first time.

‘The event has always been designed with the contractor in mind and we feel the mix of technical seminars, business advice, information and access to some of the biggest names in the industry was the best it has ever been.’
