Martindale launches new Portable Appliance Tester

Martindale Electric, a manufacturer of electrical test equipment, has launched the HPAT550 – a new, entry-level, rechargeable Portable Appliance Tester.

The HPAT500 features fully automated testing modes, designed for “quick and consistent results.”

One-button automatic testing intends to make the HPAT550 easy to operate and to simplify PAT testing while maintaining full compliance with the 5th Edition Code of practice testing requirements for Class I and Class II appliances.

Featuring a user interface with context-sensitive help screens, the HPAT550 has been conceived for both seasoned professionals and those new to PAT testing. Measured test results are shown alongside clear PASS/FAIL indication.

The lightweight, rugged design hopes to make the product useful for engineers conducting routine testing on the move. Plus, the high-resolution, bright-colour display is visible in various lighting conditions.

The tester features USB-C fast charging and can complete a good number of tests on a single charge, with an auto power-down feature to extend battery life even further.

It also includes an IT-safe 200mA earth continuity test, selectable insulation resistance testing at 250V and 500V, and a dedicated test mode for IEC power leads. The 250V insulation test option aims to ensure compatibility with surge-protected devices.

With a simplified interface and logical test sequencing, the device has been developed to reduce user error and increase efficiency. The HPAT550 replaces both the Martindale HPAT400 and HPAT500 models.

The supplied accessories include a TL67 earth bond probe, EX322 IEC adaptor lead, TC57 carry case, and a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, alongside a verification certificate and operating instructions.

Martindale also offers a range of optional accessories to extend testing capability. These include adaptors for 110V appliances and three-phase equipment, PAT label packs, plug lockouts, and a PAT register book.

All Martindale Electric PAT testers, according to the company, are built to meet the latest safety standards, including BS EN 61010-1, and feature overload protection up to 300V AC/DC.
