Rexel supports study showing how electric vehicles can make savings for motorists

To qualify as ultra-low emission, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles states a vehicle must produce 75g/km or less of CO2, which currently only plug-in electric vehicles adhere to.

Jerrry Hamilton, business development director of renewables & energy solutions for Rexel Northern Europe, explains: ‘This new research reaffirms that the savings to be had for consumers using EVs are substantial. Aside from the environmental benefits that a nation driving fuel-free cars presents, the money saved will enable motorists to invest their money elsewhere, such as further home energy improvements.

‘EVs offer even further benefits of zero rate company car tax and road tax relief. They are also exempt from the London Congestion Charge and can benefit from free parking and designated spaces in many pay and display car parks, not to mention the financial benefit of a reduction in insurance and maintenance costs.

He adds: ‘With the UK’s charging infrastructure continually improving, there is also no longer a need for motorists to be concerned about running out of battery while on the go. Charging points are now abundant across the country, with over 1,400 in London alone, and this figure set to rise to 6,000 by 2018. Coupled with a £9 million government investment to boost the number of charging points for electric cars, it is the perfect time for consumers to make the switch to plug-in vehicles.’
