Vent-Axia’s Silent Fan provides discreet ventilation

British ventilation manufacturer Vent-Axia has supplied one of its Silent Fans to a Victorian cottage renovation in Cambridgeshire.

Gemma Waterhouse, a full-time single working mum of three kids, bought the two-bedroom cottage at auction. When it came to overhauling the bathroom, Gemma knew she needed a sleek, discreet fan as it is one of the first things you see as you enter the bathroom.

Installed by PJB Electrical Services, Vent-Axia’s Silent Fan’s discreet design fit the bill perfectly, offering visual silence and silent operation.

A Victorian renovation

Gemma is renovating the Cambridgeshire cottage herself and sharing her story on social media to inspire others to give home improvement a go.

The daughter of a builder, Gemma grew up in homes that were being renovated and often helped her dad from a young age. This gave Gemma the confidence to try renovating herself, although she has very much learnt on the job with this project, gutting every room in the house on her own.

Capturing the imagination of a raft of young women, the cottage’s transformation has been shared on social media under the ‘Petite Renovation UK’ handle, with 85% of Gemma’s social media followers being female.

“Dad let me use his tools from a young age,” explains Gemma. “I remember, when I was little, painting the window sills in one of our homes he was renovating and I’ve just taken it from there really.

“When I am stuck, I ask someone to break it down for me. It might take three times as long, but nothing has been rocket science. I think by sharing my story, it has given some people the confidence to give it a go.

“Vent-Axia’s Silent Fan is great – absolutely brilliant. Not only is it nice and quiet when it runs, but it’s sleek, with a discreet cover, making a clean and tidy installation. I’m very happy.”

Paul Briley from PJB Electrical Services, who installed the Silent Fan, adds, “Vent-Axia is one of the best brands on the market and its fans are very quiet. I install quite a few Silent Fans and they are very easy to install.”

The importance of ventilation

With any bathroom refurbishment, ventilation is key to ensuring good indoor air quality (IAQ) and freedom from condensation and mould. But with the Silent Fan, electricians can offer ‘visual silence’ and acoustic silence too, overcoming the problem of noisy, obtrusive bathroom fans.

The aesthetics of the Silent Fan boast simple, clean lines with an attractive, slimline fascia that looks like a bathroom tile.

“Gone are the days when ventilation was purely about extracting moisture-laden air to avoid condensation and mould in a bathroom,” says Ashley Smith, Product Manager at Vent-Axia. “Households want fans to look good and be quiet, and our Silent Fan range delivers stylish and silent ventilation without compromising on performance.

“With 17 models to choose from, the range provides flexibility so that more households can benefit from the sound of silence.

“At just 12dBA, the Silent Fan is the quietest intermittent extractor fan on the market and has been awarded the Quiet Mark, the Gold Standard for quiet products.

“Households can be reassured that when the Silent Fan claims to be quiet, it really is, since the fan’s installed performance is tested, not just the sound levels when the fan is free to air.”

Details of the Silent Fan

An average extract fan operates at 35dB(A), which is loud in a confined space. Vent-Axia’s whisper-quiet Silent Fan offers ultra-low sound levels from just 12dB(A), making it the quietest fan on the market.

The range also offers electricians flexibility, making installation a breeze, since it is available with 17 different models.

The range includes an IPX5-rating, variable speed models, humidistat options, and both intermittent and continuous ventilation models, as well as the option of open and closed grilles.

For a customer’s peace of mind, as well as a peaceful bathroom, the Silent Fan has been awarded Quiet Mark certification, which recognises the quietest solutions to unwanted noise.

Complying fully with the current Building Regulations Approved Document F and L, the Silent Fan is designed for wall, ceiling, window, and panel mounting. Plus, the Silent Fan will fit into existing 100mm ducts and is fully compatible with existing silent fan installations, making it ideal for replacement applications.

Households will be keen to keep energy bills to a minimum and so the Silent Fan’s energy efficient motor with an energy consumption of between 1.7 to 7.5 watts is another great selling point for electricians.
