Stoke Newington gets £3.5m power boost after infrastructure upgrade

More than 50,000 homes and businesses are benefitting, thanks to an electricity infrastructure upgrade by UK Power Networks.

The firm that keeps power flowing across London, the South-East and East of England has finished installing new electricity equipment that will help to ensure reliable power supplies for homes and businesses in the area for years to come.

This work involved extending an electricity supply point at Edwards Lane to allow space for new cabling to be connected to the network.

It is part of UK Power Networks’ strategy for North London, which will mean it can decommission older electricity cabling in the Hackney area and move into a new era with state-of-the-art equipment for the future.

Tom Parminter, assistant project manager at UK Power Networks, says: “Thousands of people in the area now rely on this part of our network for a safe, efficient and reliable electricity supply.

“This essential project will strengthen our electricity network for the benefit of customers in Stoke Newington and meet growing demand for electricity in the area.”

This network improvement project is part of the company’s £600 million investment in its electricity networks this year.

The UK’s largest electricity distributor delivers electricity to 8.3 million homes and businesses and employs 6,200 staff and contractors to maintain the London electricity network for 2.4 million customers. In London alone, UK Power Networks’ infrastructure stretches more than 37,000 kilometres.
